57 pages. I think that’s even longer than the Dread manual. Yikes.
At Rabbitcon 2011, held this past Memorial Day weekend, I ran a homebrew Dread campaign set in the Dragon Age universe. (For those of you unfamiliar with Epidiah Ravachol’s amazing collaborative storytelling/tabletop system Dread, check out the Impossible Dream site. For those of you unfamiliar with Dragon Age, stop reading this right now. Go buy Origins or DA:2. Don’t worry. I’ll wait.)
After mentioning it on this week’s Gamers With Jobs Conference Call podcast, a few people have asked to see my notes on the game. I’m posting them here for your perusal, as well as all the additional game materials, including codex entries (you’ll see), rules explanation, a glossary, and the six questionnaires my awesome players filled out.
Warning: I wrote quite a bit. No, really. My notes alone are 30-odd pages, and that’s not including the supplemental materials.
I kinda overdo it sometimes.
Anyway, if that didn’t chase you off — here’s the summary for the scenario:
“You and your fellow Templars are searching the Brecilian Forest for a powerful maleficar who escaped the Circle of Magi after brutally murdering your Knight-Captain. But without a guide, your group soon became lost in the unfamiliar woods, and you’ve wandered here for weeks without any sign of either the blood mage or a way out. Tensions are high, supplies are low, and the last of the lyrium ran out days ago. You’ve started to see things. Horrible things. And you’re not sure if it’s from the lyrium withdrawal, the blood mage, or the Forest itself, trying to devour you alive. Your only hope now is to destroy the maleficar before someone — or something — destroys you first.”
Hope you enjoy reading “The Love Song of Antares and Alba” as much as I did writing it. It’s rare I feel as proud of a work as I do this one, and I only hope you get as much satisfaction watching your players uncover the mystery of Juran’s death as I did watching mine.
